Many people dream of building a house that is aesthetically beautiful and comfortable in design. To fulfill this hope, Sumia Design has implemented a project called “Mandanila House”. This residence, located in Denpasar, Bali, has a unique style compared to other houses in the area.
The newly renovated house is situated on a 317 square meter plot in a residential complex. Located directly opposite a noisy primary school, Mandanilla House has 4m high mesh walls to reduce noise while maintaining privacy.
This part is fascinating. So what makes this housing concept so appealing? You can read the full summary written by Arsitag below.
1. Enjoy the unique and beautiful bridge wall.
This wall is known in architectural circles as the Gallo Wall. We used to find a lot of cockroach material in our tropical homes.
Typically, these perforated bricks are placed over doors and windows to improve air circulation. The shapes range from rectangles to squares and hexagons and are becoming increasingly diverse.
In Mandanilla House, the designer used a rectangular rooster with a pattern of nine small rectangles.
When used as a partition, the chicken fences not only reduce noise around the school, but also act as an external wall that hides the activities of the residents living in the houses. The external walls, made of thousands of roosters, are seen as a charm and unique feature of this house.

The interior of the house is not that unique. The advantage of having high walls surrounding the interior of the house is that homeowners can be more creative. It is not surprising that distinguishing the outside from the inside seems difficult.
This is felt from the moment the visitor first passes through the turnstile. There is a small garden behind the main door, so it is almost impossible to tell which part of the house is outside and which is inside. There is no clear boundary between the two. This will make your home more unique.
As urban lifestyles shift to multi-functional spaces, Mandanilla House also applies the concept of simple yet efficient space. Upon entering the main area of the home, the first thing that greets visitors is the family room, which also serves as the living room.
The journey into the house begins with the front door, which is also the entrance for welcome guests. At the end of the hallway is a unique wall made of bricks, unusually folded.
Brick walls are not only an aesthetic element that adds value to your home, but they also provide a special warmth.
The concept of openness is not limited to blurred boundaries between the external and internal spheres. Once inside, everything seems open.
Even if there is a barrier, it is only a half-built wall. The rest of the room was visible from end to end. The change in lighting not only creates a bright effect, but also gives the house a spacious and artistic feel.
And so that you don’t miss the opportunity to add beauty, you will also find various works of art and pots of green plants scattered throughout. Everything comes together in harmony to create a home that is not only beautiful, but also comfortable and pleasant.
